SOPHIA READING GROUP SIGN-UP

Hey friends, here you can sign-up for our forthcoming Sophia Reading Group on Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass. In drawing on her life as an indigenous scientist, and as a woman, Kimmerer shows how other living beings―asters and goldenrod, strawberries and squash, salamanders, algae, and sweetgrass―offer us gifts and lessons, even if we've forgotten how to hear their voices. In reflections that range from the creation of Turtle Island to the forces that threaten its flourishing today, she circles toward a central argument: that the awakening of ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings will we be capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learn to give our own gifts in return.

The reading group discussions will run in the following two formats. Please indicate on the signup form below which option you would like to choose.

1. Zoom Discussion Groups on Sunday nights from 7:00 - 8:30 PM.

2. Live Backyard Discussion Groups of 5 or more at a coordinated time of your choosing with pre-recorded video introductions for conversation.

4/7 - Chapters 1-6

4/14 - Chapters 7-12

4/21 - Chapters 13-18

4/28 - Chapters 19-24

5/5 - Chapters 25-30

5/19 - Chapters 31-37

For this group, you will need to secure your own copy of the book. This Sophia Group will be a pay-what-you can sliding scale learning environment. A learning group like this is typically offered for $30 or more. If you are able, please click the “GIVE” button below and contribute whatever you can to help make this possible for everyone. Select the “Sophia Group - Braiding Sweetgrass” selection in the "Pay for Course” button. If you can afford more than $30, you’re welcome to give more, and if you cannot afford that, feel free to give what you can or sign up for free. No human will be turned down for lack of funds.

And remember, if you are in the “Poppy Circle” or above in our community giving circles, then you do not need to pay for this Sophia Course. Your fees will be covered! Please sign up anyways to let us know if you can make it, even if you are a part of the “Poppy Circle.”
